3 ways to stay ahead of the curve, and keep your customers happy

Shawn Dixon • April 24, 2020
As our world continues to evolve through this Pandemic, there is a large focus on getting back to business. And whether we like it or not, it is clear it will not be business as usual. The businesses around the world are going to have to adapt to the new regulations and the new behaviors of customers.

   • A retailer will need to provide online ordering and curbside pickup
   • Personal trainers will need to live stream classes and training sessions
   • Restaurants will need to have online ordering for pickup or delivery
   • All businesses will need to adjust to a more remote business model

The good news is there are lots of resources out there to help you make these changes. And if your business doors have been shuttered, now is the perfect time to get started.
1. Keep your customers informed
If you haven't created social media accounts, now is the time. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter are a great start. They are the best way to develop a following, share insights and promote services and special offers. Also, consider creating a YouTube channel. YouTube is a very underutilized resource when it comes to local searches. If I search for lawyers near me on a search engine like Google, it will return over a thousand links. If I search for the same on YouTube, it will be substantially less. Fewer results mean better chances of being discovered. Click here to create a new YouTube channel for your business.

No matter what you share on social media, do you best to provide a link back to your website. Remember the goal is to drive traffic to your website so they can place an order, book a class, or hire you for a professional service.
2. Adapt to new customer behaviors
This is a given. All businesses that depend on foot traffic will need to comply with new regulations and most likely have new requirements for staff. Businesses may also have to provide public-facing notices to reassure customers that their store or office is cleaned on a regular basis and the health and safety of their customers is a top priority. Remember back in the 1990's when restaurants had to start posting their letter grade for cleanliness on their front doors?

Two great tools to help you stay informed and to follow what may be coming next are Google Trends and Google Alerts. They both are essential to gain insightful data within your local markets and industries.
3. Create a buyer persona and plan for their needs.
One of my favorite strategies in marketing is psychographic analysis. I know, it's a mouthful. A psychographic analysis is used to paint a clear picture of your ideal customer. In marketing, it can be used to define a buyer persona. Understanding who is your ideal customer is the only way you can start to understand their pain points and their needs. Here is how you can get started: Think about your ideal customer and give them a name. Give them an age, an income, and a personality. Define their life as much as you can. And don't forget interests! Do they enjoy going to flower shows or gun shows? Or both?!

Now start to list areas that may be pain points. How can you help them? What are the benefits they will receive by hiring you or buying from your business?

As you develop this persona you will begin to understand your ideal customer in new ways. You will be able to communicate with them on a more authentic and personal level. Once you understand how to communicate with them, you can begin reaching out through social media. Let them know you understand their needs and you are here to help.

And last but not least, do your best to stay in communication with your customers. If you do not have a website, you should consider getting one now. Even if it is just a single landing page with a simple contact form. Websites are validating and now more than ever, they are essential. Here is a sample site that demonstrates what an effective one page website would look like.

Why is Local SEO so Vital for Nonprofits? Establishing a robust online presence is essential for nonprofits seeking to make a positive impact in their communities. However, understanding and implementing Local SEO (Search Engine Optimization) can significantly elevate the visibility and effectiveness of your nonprofit organization at the local level. Local SEO is not just a tool for businesses but a powerful ally for nonprofits striving to connect with and serve their communities. Enhancing Local Visibility: Nonprofits often rely on community support and engagement. Local SEO ensures that your organization is visible when locals search for relevant services or causes in their area. By optimizing your website for local searches, you increase the chances of being discovered by individuals looking for ways to contribute, volunteer, or benefit from your nonprofit's services. Targeting Relevant Audiences: Local SEO allows nonprofits to tailor their online presence to the specific needs and interests of their local community. By using location-specific keywords and optimizing content with local information, you can attract an audience that is more likely to engage with and support your cause. This targeted approach enhances the quality of your online interactions. Building Trust and Credibility: When individuals in your community search for nonprofit services or causes, they are more likely to trust organizations that appear in local search results. Local SEO not only boosts your visibility but also helps build credibility. Positive online reviews and accurate business information contribute to a trustworthy online presence, encouraging community members to engage with and support your nonprofit. Connecting with Mobile Users: Mobile searches are on the rise, and many people use their smartphones to find local services or information. Local SEO ensures that your nonprofit is optimized for mobile devices, making it easy for individuals to discover, learn about, and engage with your organization while on the go. Encouraging Local Partnerships: Nonprofits often collaborate with local businesses, government entities, and other organizations. Local SEO can facilitate these partnerships by making it easier for potential collaborators to find and connect with your organization. This not only expands your network but also opens avenues for joint initiatives and community-focused projects. Maximizing Limited Resources: Nonprofits often operate with limited budgets and resources. Local SEO provides a cost-effective way to enhance your online presence without the need for extensive marketing campaigns. By strategically optimizing your website and online profiles, you can maximize the impact of your nonprofit's digital efforts within your local community. By prioritizing local visibility, connecting with relevant audiences, and building trust within the community, your nonprofit organization can leverage Local SEO to amplify your impact. As your organization continues the vital work in the service of your community, embracing the potential of Local SEO becomes not just a strategic choice but a transformative step toward creating lasting change at the local level.
